Our future
Swiss Youth in Science
We
  • believe that a national platform is needed for promoting talent in Switzerland.
  • are of the opinion that Swiss Youth in Science (foundation for young Swiss research scientists) makes the debate about nature, technology and the humanities more interesting for young people and offers a genuine alternative to Swiss Youth in Science and leisure activities.
  • are an officially recognised charitable foundation which helps young people tap their innovative potential in the natural sciences, technology, the humanities, economics and society.
  • comprise a dedicated administration office, a chairman, 19 trustees, and over 250 volunteers and experts.
  • are in constant contact with a wide range of partners in the scientific and business community who are also committed to promoting young talent.
  • are funded by various large businesses, charitable foundations and the government. The foundation also receives financial support from private individuals.
Our roots
Our story dates back to the beginning of the last century, when a young man named Adolf Portmann was barely able to explore his scientific curiosity due to insufficient resources and a lack of encouragement for young talent. The experiences of the biologist from Basel, who later found fame, prompted him to take on the chairmanship of the first national Schweizer Jugend forscht competition in 1967 at the age of 70. He founded the foundation of the same name in 1970.
